Help Us Support PHILLIPS Program students and their families this holiday season.

This holiday season, everyone is feeling the pain of higher prices, especially at the grocery store. It’s particularly difficult for those who were already struggling to make ends meet, including many of our students and their families.

That’s why we’ve making this special request for contributions to our Holiday Grocery Gift Card Fund. These cards are the most effective way to deliver help directly to families in need and PHILLIPS supporters responded with great generosity to our previous grocery gift card campaigns during the pandemic.

PHILLIPS is committed to caring for the whole person and our holistic approach includes an emphasis on good nutrition. Children can’t thrive when they’re hungry or suffering from diet-related diseases. Making sure they have healthy food at home is an extension of the service we provide through the meals we serve and the lessons we teach at our schools.

Giving is as easy as visiting our Donation page, selecting a dollar amount, and choosing Grocery Gift Card Fund from the Program Menu.

PHILLIPS Gives Thanks

Students and staff at all of our schools gathered for Thanksgiving luncheons on Nov. 18 to celebrate and express gratitude for each other. Culinary Arts students help prepare the feasts and the centerpieces for the tables were made with pumpkins painted by volunteers from EY earlier in the month. We’re thankful for everyone who took part in EY Connect Day by teaching financial literacy classes, conducting mock job interviews with students, doing landscaping, and organizing closets and supplies.

Success Is Built on a Strong Foundation

Work is proceeding full-speed-ahead at the Building Futures home site in Annandale. Now that the necessary permits have been issued, our staff and students are busy building the foundation for what will be a luxurious home on Billings Dr.

There’s another foundation being formed, too. You can’t see it, but it’s just as important to the success of Building Futures as the concrete base is to the house. It’s the foundation of caring and trust that develops among the students and adults as they work toward their goals at the home site and in the classroom.

In the process of gaining construction trade skills, they learn about cooperation, communication, responsibility, and leadership. It happens every time we’ve built a house over the years. Relationships developed in the Building Futures Program help teens who had no interest in school develop the competence and confidence to turn their lives around, earn their high school diploma and step into young adulthood with valuable job skills and hands-on experience.

Building relationships that give teens the strong foundation they need to succeed is deeply rewarding. PHILLIPS ~ Building Futures Fairfax has an immediate opening for an Assistant Teacher at our Annandale campus. If you or someone you know has experience working with special-needs children – and especially if you’re familiar with construction or have vocational experience – we’d love to hear from you. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Visit our Careers page to get details about this and other positions available at PHILLIPS, or contact Amy Taylor at Amy.Taylor@PHILLIPSPrograms.org

The 2022 PHILLIPS Annual Campaign is off to a strong start. We’re about one-third of the way to our goal of $75,000. But there are only a few weeks left until the end of the year. Now is the time to step up the pace by making your tax-deductible donation, and inviting your family and friends to join you in supporting our mission. Nonprofit information service Candid has awarded us the highest rating for transparency, which means you can contribute with confidence, knowing that 91 cents of every dollar you give will go directly to help children with emotional and behavioral health needs.
