Chain Bridge Giving Circle
Commit to Social Justice in Education
What is the significance of the Chain Bridge Giving Circle?
In the early days, our first school was in a small house on Chain Bridge Road in McLean, VA. In 1967, Psychologist E. Lakin Phillips launched the School for Contemporary Education (later renamed PHILLIPS Programs) to serve children who were refused a public education due to their learning differences and emotional needs. By 1972, over 150 families were being served, and our academic model's strength and reputation helped inform The Education for All Handicapped Children Act, which was enacted by the United States Congress in 1975.
While much has changed in the world in the last 50 years, our commitment to providing a high-quality academic environment with individualized support services has not. We continue to serve children throughout the metropolitan DC region who have experienced marginalization and stigmatization in other education settings, and we are proud of our accomplishments and student outcomes. We’ve come a long way, but we know there’s still plenty of road to travel!
Become a Chain Giving Circle Member
Chain Bridge Giving Circle members are individuals, corporations, and foundations with a shared interest in social justice for K-12 students. Giving Circle members make an annual gift of $5,000 or more that directly supports PHILLIPS scholarships, academic enrichment programs, and the workforce and independent living skills our oldest students need.
By committing an annual gift to the Chain Bridge Giving Circle, you play an essential role in the financial health of PHILLIPS and make a powerful statement about how much you value our role in the community. Our school offers numerous volunteer and fundraising opportunities, and we would love for you to join us.
